Jim met his wife, Cindy, 34 years ago in the wild woods northeast of Talkeetna where they staked land. Their two children are married, and they have three grandchildren.
Jim and Cindy built an innovative straw bale house on Lazy Mountain to save energy for living off the grid. They used local straw bales, timber and river sand.
Jim has the time to devote to public life after more than 35 years of work in radio, TV, and independent production that took him to all corners of Alaska. He started the radio/TV production course at Anchorage's King Career Center and was the project manager getting KTNA, Talkeetna's Community radio, on the air. As a reporter for KSKA radio, Jim covered the Anchorage Assembly and School Board.
